So it looks like my cheese plant has root rot. I repotted it in a clay pot 2 months ago as it was growing brilliantly and out grew its pot. I potted it with some old compost I had outside “ it it was super boggy” so I assumed that it would dry out indoors.

Well 2 months later it had never dried out and stayed wet and just went downhill! so today I baught a new plastic pot, pulled it out and noticed that most of the roots were gone, mushy and horrid. I cut all the bad stuff off and repotted it and used new soil. The spoil is slightly damp from its packet.

Don’t think it will grow back? should I not water it for a week?

your plant should be able fo grow back and flourish again, as long as its given the proper care :)

did you have any roots left? and what size pot did you use? what kind of soil mix are you using?

Hopefully 🤞 there was very few left but the roots that were left were strong ones. I cut right back to a much smaller pot now, a size that it was in originally before repotting. It’s a simple house plant compost

Don’t think I should trim some of theleaves/stems off it?

i would say keep any healthy leaves, and cut any yellow or dying ones. have you mixed in anything for drainage in the soil? if it is just compost alone, then it is probably retaining too much moisture. monsteras like a chunky, well draining mix, so i recommend adding in some things like perlite, pumice, coco coir chips.

theres also the option of putting it in water! spray or soak the roots in a diluted hydrogen peroxide solution to get rid of any potential rot, then put it in a glass of water. you can monitor the roots easier this way, and you can keep it in water for the rest of its life, or move it back to soil! change water weekly, and fertilize once a month.

Excellent advice. I would add some rooting hormones to that combo, to help her bounce back.
