is this the start of a new leaf? i’m new to monsters so i’m unsure of when they get new leaves and what they look like!! Do i need to alter my care for the plant if it’s getting new leaves?

That is where and how a new leaf on a monstera looks. If you are getting a new leaf you are doing great. No need to change anything.
