Hey there! Just got this Thai Con and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get it a moss pole? I don’t know the ins and outs of monsteras yet.. doing lots of reading tonight and have seen mixed reviews on the need for one :)

Thank you!!

Monsteras love moss poles though ultimately it’s up to you for the esthetic you’re going for. Without the pole to climb it will likely splay outwards in many directions. Also they love the humidity of the poles too. Just my 2 cents!

I think you’ll need a moss pole when your monstera starts growing aerial roots.
They’ll grow into the moss and start climbing.

My Thai Con is roughly the same size as yours and I’ve been having the same debate lol. What I’ve found and what you may have learned in your research is that poles aren’t necessary for survival, but they can provide some degree of order and support as monsteras are generally climbers in nature. You can go without a support pole and be perfectly fine, but it may grow unruly as it gets bigger without any structure. I know there’s a debate about whether Thai Cons specifically are “climbers” or “crawlers,” so I guess the answer to your question on moss pole is “it depends,” which isn’t overtly helpful lol.

Personally, I’ve decided on the pole route. Right now mine just has two chop sticks twist tied together, but the internode or main stem is getting bigger so I probably need to move up to something more substantial soon.
