# help I don't know what to do. It seems like every Monstera I get…

help I don't know what to do. It seems like every Monstera I get hates me. I've gotten some from nurseries some from the big box store some from Trader Joe's. It seems like nothing I do. They always turn yellow and brown and die. I spray neem I do plant food. I don't water that much yet. I still end up getting root rot and brown Sims. I don't know what to do maybe I'm just not meant for Monstera's :(

what's the moisture temperature levels it's in? What's the sunlight like?

What type of soil do you use? How’s the light where you have it?  
I put my monsteras in terra cotta pots with drainage holes and use tropical soil with perlite. I also have them under grow lights. Also they’re not near heater/air conditioning vents. Maybe look at your environment and see if you can tweak something? I want a healthy monstera for you!!

i need to try and get a new one because I got those at the beginning of my plant journey. I believe I was watering them too much because they also didn't have drainage holes which looking back was a big problem. I've tried my best to propagate if you leave that I have left but I'm thinking just throw them out and restart.

what do you mean when you say you “don’t water that much yet”? are you checking to make sure the soil is dry at least a few inches down before you water, and then saturating the soil? or do you mean you’re only giving it a little bit of water at a time? based on your description, it sounds like you’ve been overwatering your monstera or they don’t get enough light.  
also, neem oil is not a preventative and shouldn’t be used as such. i hope when you say you’ve been spraying neem it’s because there were bugs. a natural insecticidal soap like castile soap is a much better choice to prevent pests
