# HELP PLEASE! My girlfriend had her monstera at her mom’s house for…

HELP PLEASE!

My girlfriend had her monstera at her mom’s house for about 2 years (her mom keeps the house warmer). Yesterday she wanted to take her plant back and put it along with her other plants. She lives in a high rise apartment building with huge glass window walls so lighting is perfect. However, the super healthy plant turned black in the span of like 6 hours yesterday. We’re thinking it’s cold shock bc it was removed from its environment and my gf’s place is cooler and the ceiling air vent was above the monstera.

Is there anything that can be done? She’s very emotionally invested in this plant and I’m trying to help her find some guidance here.

Cold shock sounds and looks right. Nothing can be done to change the leaf color, but it could readjust and carry on with time. All you can do is wait it out really — good luck! Keep us posted!

Cold shock for sure. It’s wise to acclimate it a little more in a warmer area. It’s also best to keep it away from the cool air vent, monsteras are tropical plants and dislike cold.

Could also be sun burn. Getting more direct light than it’s used to. I had one that started getting black spots when I left it outside
