# I had cut the rotten roots from my monstera dubia last week and…

_Posted by SrslyTomCruise on 2025-05-12_

I had cut the rotten roots from my monstera dubia last week and sterilized the remaining roots before leaving it alone in new barely moist soil
I checked on it today to see more leaves turning yellow. Now ive found the rest of the little roots have rotted
Ive accepted that i will just have to chop it up and propagate it but can anyone tell me for future reference where i went wrong 😢

Were you letting it dry out between waterings?

I havent watered it yet. The day i bought it the soil was soaking wet so the next day is when i treated the root rot. The new soil was a bit damp so i didnt water it. The soil is still a bit damp not dry :/

That, so if you already had root rot when you bought it, then it wasn’t your fault
