Got this beautiful Thai Con a couple months ago and I’m debating moving it into leca as opposed to chunky soil. Any agree/disagree opinions? I’m nervous about it!

What is the purpose of moving it to leca? If it’s happy in the soil, I’d keep it! Also, these grow quickly and size up fast, so you will need a lot of leca

It’s about ready for a repot because the roots are starting to grow out of the bottom, but the soil seems to stay moist a lot longer than planta recommends. I’m worried going up in pot size like it needs will make the wetness issue worse

If the soil is chunky enough, then it should be fine! Lots of perlite, orchid bark, and horticultural charcoal will be good. I also would not take planta’s watering suggestions as the norm. It’s very off for almost all of my plants, especially the ones that like to dry out

I know so many people swear by leca. I’ve personally never used it exclusively but if I were to try something totally new like that I’d probably test it on a plant I didn’t mind possibly losing just in case I messed up somehow while learning to use a new medium.

I agree! I recently switched a few plants to Leca and while they aren’t suffering they are not thriving yet either.

I had a large Thai Con in leca. It did fine. The thing I didn’t love was the containers that are big enough usually aren’t transparent. So keeping the water at the correct level just mean installing a water level float thing so I could make sure there was always enough water in the pot.

Never done it myself but I have heard a lot of good things about leca. I think you should go for it!

If it needs to be repoted I’d go for it. Why not experiment ?
Good luck and have fun 🪴✨

I don’t thing there’s a right or wrong way to go if you do your research and are diligent! Good luck either way! It’s a gorgeous Thai con!
