# Just got a cutting gift of Monstera Mini. Thinking about purchasing…

Just got a cutting gift of Monstera Mini. Thinking about purchasing chunky perlite and put it into perlite with water at the bottom. I don’t like dust and small particles of perlite everywhere in the house, haha, so I’ve found a big 1-2 cm (half inch) option. Will it also work or too big? Any suggestions for perlite+water propagating?

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Just be aware that growing or propagating in perlite+water will grow algae quickly. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it might bother some people. Otherwise, I think perlite is a great medium to propagate in before transferring to soil!

Yeah, Im thinking only for propagating, not for permanent solution. Algae…hmmm… even if use filtered and boiled water?

I haven’t tried that so I’m not sure. I’ve only used tap water and filtered water. Maybe it will be a good experiment
