# This is my monstera, I got her in December and transitioned it to…

_Publié par Baby Hankers le 2024-02-15_

This is my monstera, I got her in December and transitioned it to water. It’s been doing great and I’m even getting a new leaf!

Question about the holes in leaves: from what I’ve read it sounds like they develop after the leaf has opened and has reached a width large enough to block sunlight from lower leaves. My three largest leaves have no holes, but the smallest one and the new one (I peeked) have holes??

I don’t know much about this plant, do I have a variety that develops differently? Or why would some leaves “bloom” with holes while older leaves still don’t have any?

TIA!

They will do it randomly i have a mother plant and about 10 propagation from it and the last one was a stem with 3 leafs and just recently one started to make holes

They will only make holes if they get enough light!

the holes don’t form after the leaf, they’re part of the leaf. monstera develop leaves with fenestrations when they’re matured enough. these plants need lots of light (like right in a south facing window, east or west would also work) and lots of fertilizer to grow happily. i fertilize mine 1/4 strength with every watering. monstera are also highly unlikely to grow mature, fenestrated leaves in water, especially starting from a juvenile plant like in the picture. they need a lot of support, so i would suggest planting her in an airy soil media with a stake, board, or trellis for the stem and aerial roots to lean on. even in ideal conditions with lots of light the most important factor is time, so have patience and eventually your monstera will produce fenestrated leaves
