Can anyone help me identify if this is scale or not? I’m getting sort of nervous, although my Monstera is still very happy and growing, this is at the very base of its stem..

Still looking so healthy \& happy😊

Not scale imo. Have you tried to pry one off?

Lovely monstera! This is called corking. It appears on the stems and helps the plant become stronger as its leaves get bigger and heavier. It’s sort of like bark, but appears in little spots, especially where a stem has a bend.

If you are concerned that a certain spot is scale, try squishing it or putting rubbing alcohol on it. If it comes off easily with rubbing alcohol, it could be scale. If it stays on the plant, it’s cork.
