There’s a root my Thai con keeps trying to push out of the soil. It’s not an aerial root… do I repot into a bigger pot?

Yeah mine has roots out the wazoo. It’s definitely the plant I have to repot the most often out of all my collection. So it may be time for yours to be repotted. Just be aware, mine usually stops growing new leaves for a month or two after a repot

Dang, I don’t want that to happen now! But this root does not want to stay under the soil. Haha

Haha yeah I feel ya. Well I have seen some people make a second pot for a run-away root to grow into!

Feel the pot is it very tight or is there some give and room in width? Monstera’s are much more forgiving and prefer to be root bound vs drowning in soil and potting mix! If you do go up just do one or two inches or all the growth goes to the roots until they feel snug again! Monsteras like being tight in the pot so they are much more forgiving than many other houseplants x

PS. I learnt this the hard way lol — if you look at videos/ photos of even giant monsteras you will notice the pots are always very small in comparison to the size of plant 🪴 x

The pot feels fine. It’s like the root is trying to grow up and out of it. Haha it’s still in the nursery pot it was shipped in. There’s also new growth on it so I definitely don’t want to disturb…

You can try to redirect Ariel roots into the soil and they’ll make it more stable (granted and add to the roots) you can snip the odd unsightly root also!! You can cut Ariel roots off no bother but they can help stablise your plant by redirecting into the soil or getting them to embed into moss pole or similar (hope this makes sense!) I really rate Kaylee Ellen and Sheffield Made Plants on YouTube for more info- lots of vids 😊
