# I was gifted this big girl… does she need a repotted in a bigger pot?…

_Pubblicato da Mkplantmom il 2024-06-21_

I was gifted this big girl… does she need a repotted in a bigger pot? Propagated?
She has ALOT of baby leafs hidden and a few BIG new leafs too.
\*\*\*We have a chunky soil mix with good drainage. Great lighting +grow light on cloudy days.\*\*\*

Idk I’m new to this please help.😅

I would wait at least a couple weeks for it to acclimate to the new environment. But you can see if the roots are creeping from the drainage hole or not and if not you’re probably okay for a while. Repotting every 1-2 years is the typical time frame for repotting so if you know how long it’s been in that pot will help determine as well.

I did check that! The roots aren’t coming through. Thank you so much for the advice

No problem! She is looking beautiful and healthy, happy plant parenting!

Looks like the leaves could use a good dusting. You can just wipe them with a damp paper towel. This will help the plant to photosynthesize more effectively. Also check the undersides of the leaves for pests while you’re at it.

If the plant needs a repot, the soil will be drying out very quickly. This is a sign that the plant is root bound (pot is filling up with roots). If not, I wouldn’t worry about a repot since Monsteras tend to like smaller pots.

Agree with this. Most house plants like being a little root bound anyway monsteras included

This is more accurate than roots coming out the bottom of a pot. This beauty did not hold water! There were no roots growing out the bottom. I was worried that I’d destroy her root system when trying to break her apart. Ended up with 3 plants!

Great job and thanks for the update! Yep roots don’t always come out of the bottom when plants are root bound. Those roots look super healthy!
