# Hello monstera lovers! I have a question. Just wondering about a few…

_Geplaatst door MercyGreen op 2024-04-30_

Hello monstera lovers! I have a question. Just wondering about a few things being a new monstera momma. So I recently repotted Coco because I suspected root rot and pest infestation. Which I was right about. So I cleared it up. Repotted her, but I think I repotted her into a pot too big. I didn’t know at first, that monsteras like rather smaller pots. Im not sure if this pot is too big. Doesn’t seem like it at times but Ive realized the soil is still damp down under. I even pulled two of these stems off last week which has halted my watering. Last time I watered was on the 22nd, I do mist her everyday. I’m trying not to overwater or kill this plant like I almost did. Any advice? Will she be fine? Should I repot her again into a smaller pot? Will me messing with her again shock or damage her? Thank you in advance and hope y’all have a wonderful day! 💚🪴

She would be fine in the pot but yes they prefer being in a pot that they can get pot bound with. This allows them to put more energy into new leafs vs more roots so it just won’t get big full split leaves 🤷🏽‍♂️
I just gave mine a tighter pot to get here because it had too much room and wasn’t doing that ^. Give it a lil time to heal and then repot for better success!

There is two monsteras in the pot the big one looks nice and healthy even if you put it in a big pot they will put out roots to make it nice a snug for them. Although the smaller one you have taken off the newest leaves there for it wont put out anymore leaves so its close to dead now

What would you recommend? Should I separate them from the big plant? Move the healthy big plant into a smaller pot? I didn’t even know that! Thank you! Kinda sad now but I really appreciate that cause I would have never known.

I would keep the bigger monstera in the pot it is in but remove the smaller monstera since it wont put out any more leaves, just make sure the bigger monstera isn’t in direct sunlight and is watered once the first 2 inches of soil is dry

I think the pot size is fine. That leaf you pulled off has root rot though. Monstera need sufficient light to use the water you give them and soil that is chunky and loose and airy so that water drains properly - something like coco coir chips, perlite, orchard bark, and some potting soil. So I’d suggest increase the light it’s getting and check the soil.

I was also going to ask what type of of soil she’s in MercyGreen? I think you need some perlite and orchid bark (not the mix) added to give it more aeration.

This is the soil I have it in. Thank you for that, I will definitely look into buying some. What do you recommend about adding it? Do I repot and just change soil? Or add it on top. Thank you for the help! I truly appreciate it!

I would repot it. My guess is the soil in the pot is too damp to mix with the other amendments. If you get perlite - it’s very dusty - don’t stand right over it when you add it - or wear a mask or rinse it in strainer. Whatever you get just use equal parts.
