# Hi, I'm asking for my in-laws, she has this Monstera and it does not…

_Publié par CG le 2024-01-29_

Hi,

I'm asking for my in-laws, she has this Monstera and it does not look good. I think that it is overwatered but I'm not sure.

It doesn't have a drainage holes as she pot it straight in the decorative pot but she put some rocks on the bottom of the soil.

What will be the remedy for this plant?
If we repot it into a plastic - growing pot and put fresh soil, do we cut off all the bad leaves or leave it as is?

Thanks in advance!

Don’t quote me bc I’m still learning ofc, but bc of the lack of drainage it could be due to over watering? Also these plants like humidity so the air could be dry as well.

pots with no drainage are a death sentence for nearly every plant. it looks both over watered and under watered, so i’m guessing the pot is the issue. i’d suggest repotting it into a plastic nursery pot barely bigger than the roots (1” at most) and be sure to use a potting media with lots of chunks for drainage like perlite, pumice, and fir bark chips. i’d also recommend you add a support during repotting

Thank you! When you say adding a support , is it a moss pole?

Definitely repot into a nursery pot with fresh soil, I use all purpose potting mix, perlite and orchid mix and find this to work really well with monsteras! Unfortunately once a leaf has turned colors it won’t turn back to green so I wouldn’t say cut off the leaf entirely but you can trim off the edges if that is something you’d prefer, it isn’t necessary though! More for aesthetics if anything. Since it’s been potted without drainage holes I would also check for root rot or anything that may have resulted from the water not being drained properly! Best of luck!

Thank you! Will the part of the leaf that's not dried up but orange-ish in color goes back to green?
