# Hello friends! So I’m still fairly new to plants, I got my first ones…

_Posted by squid on 2024-01-06_

Hello friends! So I’m still fairly new to plants, I got my first ones on Mother’s Day. Then I somehow ended up with a LOT of plants. It happened so fast 😂 But anywayyyy, this monsters is one that I was gifted on Mother’s Day. The first pic I’d from shortly after I got it, and the other 3 are from tonight. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or pointers for me. I’ve recently been struggling with its new leaves not opening. They start, and then just turn brown and die before they even unfurl. I’ve been trying to most more since I noticed the issue and I think it has helped. But should I be doing anything else? And does it look like I’m caring for it correctly as far as the pot it’s in and the way I have the stick in there for supper? I was advised last month that this is a viney monstera, should I have it in a hanging planter rather than using the stick for support so the plant and be hanging and let the vines just hang down?

I apologize for how long this is. If you’ve made it this far, thank you! Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! 🪴

My guess is humidity. Having over 50% humidity is pretty important when these are sprouting. I even mist the sprouts a couple times a day. I also will only use filtered or distilled water. I add a half teaspoon of LiquiDirt to the gallon of water for feeding, only lightly during winter, probably double that during spring and winter.
