HELP!!!!

This poor guy was getting yellow leaves every week so I unpotted him to see what was going on and the roots were very thin and fragile even though he’s a big guy. I decided to put him in water and not soil and now he’s drooping, and just not happy. How do I revive this beautiful guy?!
