Hi!! I got this monstera in March and it was extremely rootbound so I repotted it shortly after getting it. Since then it’s produced leaves with fenestrations but recently it’s slowed down and has been producing smaller leaves. I noticed a root has been growing out the bottom of the drainage hole, so Ive been considering repotting it to this 10” pot (it’s in an 8” now). But I’ve heard monsteras prefer to be rootbound and I’m scared it might get root rot. What should I do? It’s in an east facing window and I haven’t fertilized it at all. Any help is appreciated :)

If the roots are growing out of the drainage like that it might be time to repot! Alternatively you could pull it out of the current pot and trim the bottom just a bit to give it some more space to grow in the current pot.

Does your soil have fertilizer? If not, then it’s probably time to fertilize! This could be why growing has slowed. Also, growing season is coming to an end, so that could explain the slowing of growth too.

Hmm I got the soil at a plant store and it didn’t have the ingredients on it, so not sure if it has fertilizer in it. I just bought some worm castings though so might add that. I didn’t think of cutting the roots though! Thanks for the advice

Gorgeous! After I repotted mine to a bigger pot, it had three new growths. I think as long as there’s really good drainage you shouldn’t have problems with root rot. I have some leca at the bottom of my pot just for a little added drainage too

Leca at the bottom is smart! Maybe I’ll try that if I end up repotting. Thanks!
