# Hello friends! I am new to having and caring for a monstera, so I…

Hello friends!

I am new to having and caring for a monstera, so I have a quick question. The first new few leaves started growing and they look great, except for one that grew with these marks on it. I would assume that if it was being over/under watered or it was getting too much sun (it’s in a partially sunny spot outside in the humidity of New England summers) it would show up like that on a leaf that has been there for a while. Is this the process or forming the holes in the leaf? Please let me know!

(The close-up photo shows the weird markings. Also included are photos of the rest of the plant to show you the overall health!)

Mine had these markings whenever the new leaf growing grew against the ribbon I had it tied to the pole with😅

Before they “harden” the leaves tend to be very soft, and even they can damage themselves during the process. Honestly best bet is to see if it’s a continuous problem then work from there, sometimes it’s a one in a million and others it’s an every time.

Looks like mechanical damage sustained while the leaf was forming or still very new, it shouldn’t be a problem ☺️
