# 4-5 years ago I bought my Monsterra, I didn’t know Jack about plant…

4-5 years ago I bought my Monsterra, I didn’t know Jack about plant care. Most of my plants outside of Pothos died because I just didn’t put much effort into learning. So when I got this beautiful plant from a Home Depot for $24, I immediately repotted it. It went from an 8” pot to a 12” lol. I used moisture control soil (ugh I know…). Because the soil retained so much water, I just started bottom feeding it with the planter I got from Target.

It was doing pretty well for someone who was totally clueless. Zero leaf discoloration. Last year, my mother in law came to visit and decided to water all my plants without asking (I had already watered everything days prior). She saturated the top of the soil. I tried to drain as much as I could, but it soon turned yellow then brown. I had to cut a couple leaves and I took a healthy leaf to (poorly) propagate.

I finally repotted it after zero growth after the incident. Lost some roots, kept most, hydrogen peroxide the bottom ones, sprayed everything below the soil with copper fungicide. Removed as much of the moisture control soil as I could and replaced it with well draining aroid mix (fox farms + orchid bark + perilite). Gave it a moss pole to climb on and held it all together with garden Velcro. I put it back in a 12” pot but this was deeper so it has an extra 2” below which I filled in with 1” of bark/moss. (It was all I could get a hold of- hope it works out). I couldn’t separate them to turn the other plant to face the right direction but got it as close as I could get.

Fingers crossed I made it happy!!

I think it'll love being outdoors under a shaded area. Maybe in your from porch or by from door? As a statement piece, for sure.
Anyway, the higher humidity outdoors can make it fuller and stronger

The air here is very dry and very hot. We will be hitting triple digits this summer.

They grow fast so I repotted mine 2x since I got it 2 yrs ago. I did a lot of cuttings on big leaves too and put the in a vase. They last for a few weeks. I used bamboo poles and support clips to keep it in shape.
