# I just got this guy last weekend and he seems pretty healthy to me…

_Publicado por Rachel el 2024-05-24_

I just got this guy last weekend and he seems pretty healthy to me but not sure if these roots are supposed to be sticking out of the pot like this? I didn’t think I’d need to repot since I just got it but just not sure if this is okay / normal for a monstera?

They are aerial roots not the normal roots. They are used by the plant to stabilise itself. You can leave them as is or direct the roots into the soil.

Wow no way. Yeah they seem pretty hard/thick and I fear I’d break them trying to point them back into the soil. I guess I’ll leave them for now 🤷🏼‍♀️ thank you!

Yeah once they grow longer it will be easier😊 you should start to see them further up the main stem when maturer.

I put mine in water and it grew so well now I’m directing it to soil!
