# I’ve had this Monstera for about 5 months now, I bought it with some…

_Publié par Sandytoes le 2024-03-14_

I’ve had this Monstera for about 5 months now, I bought it with some broken leaves and I never knew what to do with them. Now it’s like half this plant is thriving and the other half is waiting on me to do something. So what do I do?! I figure I probably need to cut the stems with broken leaves but I don’t want to damage the plant. Is there a certain way I need to do this?

You may be able to cut the “bad leaves” below a node, propagate them, and then replant them with the mother plant. I’ve done that in the past to get a fuller plant!

This is what I was thinking but I don’t see the nodes or the node is shared with good leaves I don’t want to lose. Wasn’t sure if I cut the stem if a new leaf will replace it?

Your monstera is fine. No need to cut a perfectly green leaf. Those leaves that look broken are a result of it coming from the perfect greenhouse conditions to less desirable lighting conditions in a store. Each new leaf will have a fuller appearance as long as you give it the best lighting and care.

Yes I’ve gotten great new leaves and they all look wonderful! I guess I thought the broken leaves would repair themselves or something magically 😆 but now the plant is just looking lopsided because all the broken leaves are on one side and the other side just keeps growing and thriving

This is one of mine. It had others in the same pot that had the same issue but I had separated them and the result of all are the same. Each new leaf that unfurled became fuller.

Did you just leave the broken ones on the plant?

Have you checked the roots? I’ve repotted this one twice.
