Hey friends, I added some “moss” poles about a month ago and my monstera seems to be very happy still. But I’m curious if my moss poles are too hard/compact? They almost feel like twine, not very soft. I try to keep them moist by misting them daily and idk if the roots are supposed to just “cling” on there or really grow through them, but they just seem to be growing along the surface of the moss. I’m sure I need to be more patient and with time they will become more attached, but what have y’all experienced with the early stages of moss poles? TIA!

Hi! Looks like you have a coco coir pole I think which they don’t really cling on to or grow into. The aerial roots are attracted to the moisture and will “reach” for it, but you’d need a sphagnum moss pole for it to cling and grow into for it to effectively work. The coco coir is more so a “support” then a grow into kind of pole, still good for them to feel sturdy! So it will help them (:

Do you guys think I should switch some to sphagnum moss poles?

You’ll need to water them otherwise it’ll be pointless :-) so as long as you do that you’ll do great :-)

The aerial roots will eventually grow down and you can guide them to the soil which will then support the plant itself
