# So I’ve been deeply neglecting my moss pole maintenance recently and…

_Posted by Bb on 2025-10-25_

So I’ve been deeply neglecting my moss pole maintenance recently and finally got around to extending these and also making a support stand to stop them from falling over every time I open the door and also have them on a height to prevent my stealing the LECA and chewing on it (he loves the crunch). Also one of the pothos vibes is just hanging loose now, I won’t bother trying to attach it back to the moss pole.

My philodendron has sustained so much mechanical damage to the leaves from falling over and getting caught in the door, poor thing.

I’m planning to add some more grow lights so that each plant has their own, just need to find some more nice driftwood. I’m hoping to train the philodendron’s leaves to face back into the house this way rather than facing out towards the sun. We shall see!

This support is solid and it’s hard to see in the photo but the poles are also secured to hanging bars so there’s no risk of toppling. Yay for plant chore success!

Please ignore the cabinet situation, it’s still a WIP as I’m waiting for a drill bit to arrives so I can finish putting it together.

I’m still trying to find best way to water moss poles. I’m currently using watering bulbs but even with those I need to position them just right. Otherwise they empty too quickly and dripping on pot and floor. But I see you are using plastic cups. I’m assuming you have poked holes in bottom and then just fill the cup with water. I’ve not tried that method. How is it working?

Yep that’s right, plastic cup with a hole poked through. It works great, I never have issues with drips although my poles are only exposed at the front. The only thing I need to do on an ongoing basis is clean the cups as sometimes bits of algae will form and clog up the holes but it’s easy to see when that happens :)

Just to add, I just poke a pin through the centre and then wiggle it around to make it a little bigger. The rate at which it drips doesn’t allow it to go too quickly so I’ve never ended up with a mess on my floor or anything like that. Hope it works for you too!

Gonna try it. Thanks.

No probs, best of luck with it!
