Question… I have two grow lights because it’s pretty dim in here on overcast days. But should I be shutting them off on sunny days? Or is doubling up on light ok?

As long as ur leaves don’t show signs of being burned you should be fine!

Aroid plants don’t need intense direct sun. Perfect — aroids (like Monstera, Philodendron, Alocasia, and Anthurium) are generally low to medium light lovers, so here’s a more tailored guide:

⸻

🌤 On Sunny Days (especially in a bright room):
• You can usually turn the grow light off.
• Aroids don’t need intense direct sun — bright indirect natural light is ideal.
• If they’re near an east or north-facing window (or filtered light from a south/west window), they’re usually happy without supplemental light on sunny days.

⸻

☁️ On Overcast or Short Winter Days:
• Use the grow light to keep their light consistent.
• Aroids can get leggy or dull in low light, and growth slows down.

⸻

✅ Pro Tips:
• Aim for 10–12 hours of bright, indirect light per day.
• If you’re unsure, try a light meter app on your phone — aroids thrive in about 200–500 foot-candles of light.
• If you’re using an LED grow light, keep it 12–18 inches from the top of the plants, depending on the intensity. yes, it’s fine to turn it off on sunny days — especially if they’re getting bright natural light. Just keep an eye on leaf color and stretching (leggy stems), which are signs they may want more light overall.
