It’s doing so good… but also bad?!! How do I get it to grow taller? So much new growth under there.
And why are some of the leaves like that?

My guess is just wait. It might take a min!

Edema! I had a raindrop peperomia arrive with the same problem! Do not cut the leaves off until you’ve completely treated the problem and new growth starts without forming the “bumps”. There’s a couple of different causes of edema, but it essentially happens when there’s a change in the humidity while the plant’s soil is wet that causes the plant’s roots to suck up more water than it can handle, causing the plant’s cells to literally burst, causing those bumps, wrinkled leaves, and a spot on one leaf that turned clear and looked like all the green somehow dissolved off that part of the leaf.

Here’s how it’s looking now that it’s recovered. I did 3 things to treat it.
1\. I let the soil completely dry out, and I essentially gave it a drought for an extra week or so. You don’t wanna risk overwatering it if edema is occurring, as even regularly watering it can worsen it until the edema is fixed. If you’re scared of doing this, try repotting it in fresh, dry soil to allow the plant to dry out faster.
2\. I made sure it was in a space away from drafts, AC vents, and open windows or doors that could make its spot cold while the soil is wet. Mine arrived in this condition but doing this helped it recover, as the trip in the mail itself, likely because of the mixture of moisture and temperatures it faced while in a package, likely caused the issue. It was also in a very small 2 in pot when it arrived, giving very little space between the water and roots during waterings.
3\. I repotted it in a chunkier mix of soil. It originally arrived in a practically completely peat moss mix, which holds moisture well but sometimes too long for plants. I used Espoma’s Organic All-Purpose Mix and added 1/4 of Espoma’s Cactus and Succulent mix for added perlite and drainage, as well as repotted it into a larger pot so the soil came between the roots and the water more during waterings. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT USE MIRACLE GROW soil for this! It will only worsen the plant’s health if it has edema, especially if it’s currently humid where you live. If you currently have it in miracle grow, repot ASAP. That could be one of the key contributors to the edema.

I’m sad to say that once edema occurs, it doesn’t reverse on one’s leaves, so unless you don’t mind the look of the affected leaves, you should cut them off (but ONLY when you are completely sure the edema is treated). Edema is a little tricky, and in serious cases the plant can be long gone, but catching it early is key. Definitely look up “what causes edema in houseplants” as well to help you further narrow down any other causes for this problem on your plant. Edema also often occurs during a plant’s growth spurt, which would make sense if this started around the time all those new leaves you mentioned started popping up. I hope this helps!

And as for helping it grow taller, 1. Chopping the edema affected leaves off when the edema has been treated and no longer forms on new leaves can help open space up for the new growth in the middle to receive light, and will tell the plant to put energy elsewhere, hopefully forcing it to focus on the new growth.
2\. My peperomia obtusifolia had the same bundle of new growth hidden by its larger leaves, and I found that rotating it a little every time I placed it back in its spot after watering helped make sure all sides of the plant got even sun exposure over time. I started doing this in May and the peperomia has shot up quite a bit since then. Definitely treat the edema before worrying about the new growth, though. In time, once the edema is gone, I’m sure your plant will naturally fill out, especially if chopping some of the outer leaves gives more opportunity for light to reach the middle.

Also quick question: is it in a self watering pot? And does the pot it’s in have drainage holes at the bottom?

Thank you so much Adrian!!!
It is not in a self watering pot, but it is out side in MO. We had a lot of rain so the over water makes sense. It does have drainage holes in the bottom. The new growth is sprouting like crazy, so it’s still doing good!! I don’t mind the spots for now. I’ll move it to the front porch where it’s covered to help dry out in case of any more rain coming soon.

Another qq! Some of my perlite is turning green/yellow in other plants, also assuming from all the rain. Should I repot or is it ok?
