Hi All,

I’m very new to gardening and looking for recommendations for house plants. Some things to keep in mind: I live in southeast MI, my house only has N and S facing windows 🙃 so moderate to low light for the win, I have 2 cats and a dog so I’d prefer plants that are nontoxic to them because we all know accidents happen. I’ve started my collection with 2 spider plants. I look forward to learning from everyone!

I grew up in southwest Michigan. I feel your pain. Try using the south facing windows. Add grow lights where needed and you are not tied to a window.

I tend to like easy to care for plants. Some pet friendly options (from a quick Google) that I enjoy are my rattlesnake calathea, fishbone cactus (no spikeys - I promise!), and parlor palm. I just got a Moon Valley Pilea and I love that it has a fun texture! So far it’s doing well.

I have all of these in east facing windows.
