# My step-mom gave me this plant this weekend. It was a start from a…

My step-mom gave me this plant this weekend. It was a start from a plant of my late grandpa. She had started this plant awhile ago. It has been outside all summer, watered when she remembered and basically just forgotten. I brought it home today and repotted it because the soil was 1. from outside and 2. so compact that the poor plant was smashed in there.
The roots looked pretty good so I rinsed them and gave it some new soil.
Now that he has a fresh start should I cut him back and hope he starts to grow better or leave him alone and let him acclimate for awhile?

I would wait a day or two personally, i always wait for shock to get over and make sure its still healthy and then i would propagate and make it nice and big 🤷‍♀️🙃

i agree, after a plant’s root system has been thoroughly disturbed, i always wait until i see new growth before taking cuttings to ensure they have the best chance of rooting

I would definitely cut it back. Just from what we can see, it’s pretty leggy so your leaves will be sparse no matter what. That will also encourage new growth. I’d be sure to nix anything that’s brown or yellow right away to direct all the nutrients to the healthy bits. Those guys bounce back in no time. He’ll be fine! What a nice legacy to have!

I trimmed him back a little and he seems to be doing good. 🤞🏻
