What kind of plant is this? I think a corn plant? My friend gave it to me and I intend to save it I just don’t know how!

Dracanea! (Yes, corn plant) crispy leaves makes me think it was either under watered or too much sunlight. Have you taken a look at the roots?  
Could also be:  
Over fertilizing  
Overwatering (root rot leading to inability to uptake nutrients)  
If you have more info on how it was kept, I could get a better idea of how to help.

The roots look great! I’m going to assume it was either sunlight or overwatering. I gave it a nice trim and it’s pretty again! She said the soil is about 3-4 weeks old. I’ll ask what she used

Oh good! Then I’d just give it time to bounce back :) the soil look good (seems to have amendments for aeration) and I’m assuming the pot has drainage holes since you have a saucer underneath haha. best of luck!
