My first bromeliad flower! And looks like there’s more to come. I had no idea it would be such a lovely violet color. Something sweet and beautiful while I go through heartbreak 🥲❤️‍🩹My partner of two years unexpectedly broke up with me, so the plant collection and I had to pick up our sorry pots and move back in with my mom last week. Feels bleak, but the plants are still growing and the flowers are still blooming. Guess I better take notes from them 🪴

I’m sorry to hear that. My collection started due to a loss as well but a mc. It all started with a golden pothos, that may have been in a 4in and wasn’t big enough to vine yet.

I’ve heard lots of people say “plant care is self care.” For a while I thought it was just a cute sentiment, but it really does help in some stages of life to have that routine of taking care of a plant and watching it thrive. Of course, if something goes wrong with a plant, that’s hard too. But when it goes right, it does add that good routine, things to look forward to, and a sense of accomplishment. As much as I wish I could skip the sadness (and sometimes get frustrated with people telling me I’ll get past it before I know it), I know eventually there will be new growth and sunshine in my life again

I was also worried at first that I’d stop taking care of my plants out of bitterness. My now ex partner apparently felt my plants took over the room he’d restrict them to, but he felt like he couldn’t ask me to do anything about it. There’s a grain of truth to that, although we each see it differently from our own perspectives. So at first I wanted to hate my plants for “ruining” the relationship. But I had this huge collection before we met. They’ve been my passion for years. So I decided I shouldn’t punish myself and them for him ultimately deciding he didn’t like what he signed up for. And they weren’t really the root of the issue in my opinion. So I’ll keep caring for them and for me

Oooh! Such nice red 🤩 I thought that part was the whole flower because I hadn’t seen that yellow part on one before your pic. Stamen I think? Reminds me of some air plant flowers I’ve seen. Maybe they’re botanical cousins!
