# My avocado plant had been good for over a year, but then I noticed…

_Posted by Alexis on 2024-08-09_

My avocado plant had been good for over a year, but then I noticed the leaves looking more brown and not necessarily drying and shriveling up. Can anyone tell me if it looks like over watering or if there may be an issue with the plant?

It might need to be repotted. I would test the soil with a pencil or a chopstick by sticking it into the bottom and if it comes out damp you don’t need to water. But mine was having the tips look like yours is and I ended up needing to repot it into one that fits its roots better. I also found keeping it next to a window with direct morning sun is better for mine and keeping it misted. I hope this helps

I agree ^ this pot also looks a bit big I’m curious how big the root system is

I had repotted this plant recently, the pot it was originally in was the size of the tan one seen in the background and the roots were all overlapped at the bottom and this issue had started around that time before I repotted it. Could it be from the roots being tied up around one another?

One thing with avocado trees is they hate being changed. So since you repotted it recently, it makes sense that it’s kind of giving some backlash. Just keep watering when needed and keep in some good lighting and it should bounce back.
Those leaves will probably never turn back to their normal coloring. I also recommend getting something to stabilize it. Avocado trees really love stability so I got mine a stick and use clips to tie it to the stabilizer.

I agree with everyone. Same thing with mine and when I popped her out of her old pot she was moderately root bound. She’s been having some adjusting trouble tho 😢

And the droopiness is probably from readjusting to the new pot. Mine did that after repotting and I gave it a good watering and it bounced back within a week.

This was directly after repotting

And this is it today about a week and a half after repotting. It’ll bounce back with proper care
