Love the color! Mine are in the works of blooming soon. Was pretty excited to find some new pups pop up this year. You planning on planting it, or gonna try to keep it indoors?

Honestly I don’t know! I was thinking about getting it its own pot since I wasn’t sure about the longevity living in water. What would you recommend?

I’ve never tried growing them in water, but I did plant mine a few years ago. If you’ve got a local nursery you could probably ask them for tips, and I’m sure you could find some YouTube tutorials on how to plant them into soil, but this is their usual blooming season, so planting them after yours stops blooming and before the summer heat comes, or waiting until the fall would be a good idea. I don’t know how long they can last in water, but that’s if you want to plant them. I was an absolute newbie at gardening when I planted them, they’re not in any special soil. They’re pretty hardy plants, so I just dug about 8 inches and planted them in before they bloomed. Biggest thing to consider is lighting, really. You don’t wanna put them in a spot with bright direct sunlight all day. They do well in a spot that’s shady half the day and gets some morning or afternoon sun. As for watering, you’ll either wanna water it in the early morning before it really heats up or gets too sunny, or around sunset or dusk when it gets a little cooler, cause watering some garden flowers in the afternoon sun can lead to shock or burn them. You can scroll through the information Planta provides for hyacinths to see where to plant them and figure out if where you live is a zone they can survive in outdoors. I’m planning on adding some more hyacinths to my patch after their blooming season, so if you’d still like some help with them, I can try to document what I do this time around. Hope this helps!

I’ve definitely seen folks here pot bulbs up and keep them in a pot indoors until it’s the right season to plant them. You could try that to help harden the roots to prepare them for living in soil in the meantime. Making a post about it on the Gardening and Outdoors group could help get some of those that’ve potted bulbs up before to share some advice.

No problem! Good luck! I love hyacinths. I used to have wild ones grow outside my house when I was a kid, so when I moved I really wanted to see them pop up again in the spring. Ooh, one thing though! They are toxic to dogs, so try not to plant them anywhere that’s common grounds for dogs. I’ve got a shih tzu that thankfully ignores them, but if you’ve got a dog or any neighbors that frequently pass while walking theirs, it’s just a good precaution to consider.
