# Is this a flower spike on my maranta? I’ve had this baby for 2 years…

_Publicado por Cemarshall el 2024-03-23_

Is this a flower spike on my maranta? I’ve had this baby for 2 years and we StRuGgLeD for a loooong time. 😮‍💨 I think I’ve finally got it happy but suddenly it has this weird spike that looks unlike its normal growth pattern. 🤔 If it is a flower, should I cut it to conserve energy for the leaves? I just don’t want him to go downhill after it’s taken me so long to get stuff right. He still doesn’t have a hugely robust root system

yay!! it’s flowering!! that happens in spring when the plant is happy and healthy (: there is no need to cut its flower off!! i only ever remove flowers after they die. enjoy the plant showing off its happiness!

agree!! best to not change a plant’s state while flowering (bc it’s so happy), unless the health of the plant depends on it!

Yay! Thank you for the confirmation! I’m excited to see the blooms when they arrive!

I trim my flowers regularly solely for aesthetic reasons, so no worries if you decide to trim them. Knowing that you’ve had this little guy for over a year and observing his pot, I’d consider repotting him this spring season. I’ve had mine for two years and it’s now in a 10” pot.

I missed pictures of the top 2 flowers. They’re so teeny and precious! I love them! 😍

Thanks for your time and comments plant friends!
