# Help please... I was gifted this cutting, doing so well in water that…

_Posted by Mel on 2025-04-22_

Help please... I was gifted this cutting, doing so well in water that I hate to pot... short story..another type of begonia that I had a cutting of- as soon as I potted to soil, it died and I never got her back...so my fear is I'll lose this one too. What is the best soil to ensure success for this baby? Or is forever in water okay?

You can keep it in water forever and it would be fine, but if you do want to transfer it to soil you need a transition period for it.

Remove it from water and cut back any brown or soggy roots, place it in a slurry of water and soil for it to sit in for the roots to start acclimating, it only needs a couple days to do this. After that use a light airy mix of soil like 2 parts coco coir, 1 part pearlite, 1 part potting soil. They also like slightly acidic soil so if you want you can add in peat moss to raise the acidity
