# These are Marjorie and Glen, they are my avocado trees, I sprouted…

These are Marjorie and Glen, they are my avocado trees, I sprouted them from pits last year. I honestly have no idea what I'm doing and I'm really new to this so please feel free to give me some tips.

I grew an avocado tree from an avocado seed when I was in grade school, you know, the kind you put a toothpick in on all three sides, and set it in a glass of water… Lol! You won’t believe this, but that seed, over the course of many years, grew into a tree that covered an entire half of our patio; can you believe that?! It was gigantic, to say the least! If you had told me, when I first put that seed into the glass, with his little toothpicks, that it would be like Jack and the beanstalk, I wouldn’t have believed it… but it did happen, and it is a true story! So, beware; make sure you have a place to put this thing, because it may grow into a giant!

You don't seem to need any growing tips. You're doing fine! Considering Lyndas avocado growing experience you might consider how you want to control growth and shape your plant at this early stage. I'm not real familiar with avocado but generally you can top the plant to both control its height and create branches lower on the plant. There's more to it than I can effectively explain here but you might want to look into pruning techniques for avocado.

I’ve never been able to get seeds past sprouts.

Keep trying… If a fifth grader can grow a seed into a giant tree, it can’t be rocket science, right?! As they say, try, and try again… you will be successful! Good luck!
