“Rescued” this Stromanthe Triostar from my farmers market this morning (it had brown crisping and root rot). This is my first member from the marantaceae family so I hope it goes well 🤞🥲 lmk if you have any name ideas!

this was my first prayer plant as well, the foliage is striking. mine was rescued as well, from a local plant shop, and had crispy, algae-covered leaves i spent a while cleaning. they can tolerate a fair amount of direct light i’ve found (kept mine a few feet from a northeast window) but they really need a humidifier running otherwise all your new leaves will turn crispy. very easy to grow otherwise, i water with filtered tap water once the new leaves stop unfurling (the top 1/2” to inch of soil is usually dry) and haven’t had issues yet. it is also planted in a coarse mix consisting of orchid bark, perlite, and potting soil in equal parts and seems to like it. sorry if this is all unnecessary information i figured i’d share what works for me, since many struggle with this plant :-)

Thank you! I don’t have a humidifier so I’ll look in to getting one. What is your ambient humidity without one? My house is usually at around 55%

55% might be good, i don’t currently own a functioning hygrometer unfortunately, but my living room (where it was) has about 40%, and my bedroom (where the humidifier is) fluctuates around 60%. if i have the ac running it’ll sometimes get up to 70% since the humidity is crazy here in the summer. it has been growing faster and i haven’t lost any of the new leaves to crispiness since it was moved. i left for a week this spring, and the total humidity in my apartment dropped probably close to 30% (no humidifier running at all…), and pretty much all the leaves had lost at least a few millimeters around the edges. it kept happening despite me trying a pebble tray so she got relocated.
