# I am trying to figure out humidity needs for my new prayer plant.…

_Posted by Katie on 2024-03-08_

I am trying to figure out humidity needs for my new prayer plant. When she came home from the store, a few of her leaf tips were brown. A few days ago, I noticed that some of the good leaves were curling slightly at the ends. Two nights ago I got, what I hope is, a brilliant idea: My pepper and tomato seedlings are growing under plastic domes with a warming mat. The last two nights I’ve put the prayer plant under the dome. I’m wondering though if going from that warm and humid environment to my rather dry home during the day is too big of a change. Will it stress the plant? I also am trying a diffuser right next to her during the day. Not sure diffusers produce enough humidity to make a difference. Thoughts?

After a few years of trial/error/experimenting with mine, I’ve found that the crispy tips have been more often caused by my lack of quality filtered/distilled water versus humidity. Not saying it fully fixed it, but upgrading my water choice for this plant drastically changed the quantity of crispy tips compared to seasons of high humidity. I also found that stress caused by either too much light or not enough light is another big factor. Just some things to consider for you! 🌿

Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s raining here today, so I put some vessels out this morning to collect water. I had read that prayer plants don’t like tap.

She’s sitting on a ledge between my kitchen and sunroom, about 8-10 feet back from large windows that span most of the west wall. I think it’s a good balance, but I will definitely keep location in mind if she seems to need something. Thanks!

I also read that is best to use distilled water and that using hard water could harm them…so now I am watering mine with distilled water.
