I’m reposting this to this group in hope to find some help. This root feels line it’s rotting on my moth orchid. It is a new root that quickly grew starting about 2 months ago. It was not firm so I tried watering it because it needed water anyways. Please help and I’ll try to reply to anyone needing more info quickly. Thanks so much!

What color was it before you watered

Only about every 2-3 weeks I think. I put my finger all the way down into the soil to make sure it’s almost all the way dry

Can you add a photo with the flashlight on for better lighting?

Do you use sphagnum? Orchid bark? Perlite? Or a mix?

Ok I’ll do a longer comment with picture when I get home. It was that same color before I watered it and it’s still kinda squishy. I use a kind of cheap orchid potting mix right now and a terracotta pot (I’m going to repot it soon with high quality things from repotme). I think the mix has some perlite and a bit of orchid bark, no moss.

Get a medium with moss too. It may be underwatered or not retain enough moisture.

South facing window, no draft or heat

Do you mist it? Spray with neem oil? Or any other insect repellent?
