Hi friends!

This is my first time owning an orchid. I bought this one yesterday at a plant festival/nursery nearby.

I was wondering if someone could tell me if this is a root or a new little baby coming in?

Also any tips \& tricks are welcome!

Thanks! 🫶🏻

It’s a root! Roots that stick out of the soil are called aerial roots :)

Welcome to the world of orchids! Nice looking plant. I like the look of kokedama with orchids. Is it true kokedama? The name and the opening at the top makes me think not. The only reason I ask is it will affect how you care for it. If you give the ball a little squeeze, does the ball give evenly, it probably is. If it feels hard like plastic or crinkles, then no.

Treat a kokedama plant like a mounted plant. Soak the ball when watering. Depending on your conditions, that could be daily to every few days. Wait for the media to just dry out before watering.

If it’s not kokedama, treat it like a potted plant. Again depending on your conditions, that could be weekly to two weeks.

This is the tag that was also attached so I believe it’s real/plastic free/different than kokedama. Thanks!!
