I had a fallen yellow leaf on my Den. kingianum ‘silcocki’ so I pulled the plant out to have a closer look. I have a couple of growths from the bottom that I took to be new canes and then I started seeing growth coming from further up on canes that look like new canes?? And then I see a couple that have roots growing out some others??? Are these some kind of baby. No wonder it dropped a leaf! The new cane I observed last prog report has grown to nice small cane, can anyone tell me what these others are?

I don’t have a lot of experience with dendrobiums but at least the ones with new roots growing from their bases, those look for all the world like keiki’s- baby plantlettes.

That would be fun, I hope so. 😀

I agree they are keikis. One of my dendrobiums did the same thing. One got large enough I could detach and plant. The other two are mostly roots right now.

Yay for asexual reproduction!

Wonderful! How long do you wait for the roots to get?

#### MeasomerPi replied on 2023-11-14

I wait for two inches of cane/leaf growth and two inches of root growth.

Thank you! I cut my teeth on Phalenopsis for a few years and this year decided to branch out. Glad I did😀 Thanks again.

Phals are the gateway drug for orchids
