Fredclarkeara After Dark "Black Pearl"

Oooooooooo, one of the plants from a recent buying bender just arrived. Tres excited! It’s my first time diving into the Catasetinae Alliance. We’ll see just how black the flowers are…

They sound wild. Short but dramatic growing season where they are thirsty and hungry. Then they drop all the leaves they just grew, flower and then go dormant spending the rest of the year as random green sticks in a pot.

Oh and pretty much every resource I looked at warned of spider mites and I still bought it. Evidently I hate myself.

But sooooo excited! Wish us luck

Oh and this is a pic of the flowers I took from the sellers site (but most of the sellers use it). I’m pretty sure it’s been photoshopped because they are described as dark burgundy, almost black.

It’s my first experience with a Catasetum so 🤞

It seems like it’s of flowering size so if I am doing it right i can post flower photos. If not, I’ll post a pic of an abused plant soaked in my hot bitter tears.
