# I picked up some blue chalk stick leaves that had fallen off a plant…

_Posted by Liv on 2026-05-14_

I picked up some blue chalk stick leaves that had fallen off a plant at work. I was wondering if I’d be able to propagate viable plants from these… would love to try. Any tips on how to successfully prop them I’d love to hear!!

Since it is in the succulent category I would put it in a propbucket with soil usually succulents don’t need to be buried they will root on the surface !

Get some gritty substrate and a small/shallow pot (terracotta or clear plastic is my preference). Soak and ring out some spghagnum moss and put a thin layer down. You’ll want to mist every couple of days to keep the moss moist. Put in bright but perhaps indirect light. Add a humidity dome if you’d like (helps accelerate rooting). Then wait. Mist. And wait some more. Patience is key; it will take a few months. After much trial and error I’ve found this the most successful method yet. Good luck!

Jade prop about 3 months in. The leaf will feed the babies and eventually shrink away
