Hey everyone, first propagation of my monstera plant. How do I know when she’s ready to be repotted into her new home?

I've always gone by the rule to wait until secondary roots start forming. But I'm relatively new to propagating and I've never propagated a monstera 🤷

That’s what I’ve heard too but she’s out growing that little bottle quick and I don’t want her to end up getting stuck or me damage her when I go to take it out.

Hmm... Is moving her to a different container an option? That one's so cute though

I might see what I can find this weekend. I like that little thing it was from a propagation of a pothos I bought and accidentally killed, hence why I’m trying to be careful this time. lol

Generally you need at least 2 inches of roots + secondary roots beginning to form otherwise the propagation will likely fail to thrive

What exactly are secondary roots? The root on the bottom is like 4 inches long.

It’s when there are smaller new roots growing off of the main root! Here’s an example from a plant i’m propagating currently. The goal is to basically grow a mini root network before you transition to soil so it has more surface area to handle the transition.

Awesome, thank you!

I’d get it out of that bottle and into a wide mouth jar. You might have a hard time getting it out or will break a root trying to.

I agree. Gonna do that this weekend!

My favorite jars to use are the large size Adams peanut butter jars. Hugely wide mouth! And plenty of room for roots 😄
