Keiki paste. I purchased on Amazon because people on here continually mention it for propagating. Im new to using it and hoping for tips and tricks. I’ve heard to “notch”, or barely make a cut into each node before applying a thin layer of paste to promote growth. Is this true? What else do you do with Keiki paste?

Notching seems to be recommended as the most effective way to get the hormone in contact with the absorbent part of the plant. But I personally don’t think it’s the only way. I prefer to avoid opening wounds in a plant when possible. Obviously breaks happen and taking cuttings is still opening the plant. But I don’t want to do more than my usual planned propagation because I feel like each cut is a potential opening for infection and/or rot. But I may just be overcautious!

Instead, I’ll apply it on visible leaf nodes if I’m aiming to grow a leaf, or root nodes if I’m aiming to encourage more roots. I’ve also tried applying it to propagations but sometimes the plant doesn’t seem to react well to covering the cut ends of the plant or propagation with paste. Not sure why, but it SEEMS to lower my success rate a bit. I’ll also take the opportunity to apply it if a leaf breaks off or a stem cracks from the plant falling or something like that

I hope that wasn’t too much rambling about my opinions lol. What type of plants are you hoping to use it on?

In reference to your jade plant, it doesn’t need any notching of nodes. I’ll reply more about that in your other post. I have no experience with keiki paste. I’m sure others more experienced with it will chime in soon.😊
