# I may have just wasted $10, but I couldn’t let this go and not try to…

I may have just wasted $10, but I couldn’t let this go and not try to save it. I rescued this mini monstera from Walmart. She’s rough. My theory is that wherever she was stored wasn’t climate controlled because we just had a massive cold snap in MN. So, I speculate (and I definitely could be wrong - please let me know if I am!) that she has cold burn and those leaves won’t recover. I am interested in propagating the healthy-ish leaves and starting over because I fear she’s just too far gone. Should I propagate and start over? Where do I cut if I do?

Love Monstera! You’ve got several separate plants in the pot. I’d pull them out of the soil, separate the roots if possible, and remove any dead roots. You can repot in fresh soil or clean off the roots and put them in water for now.

make sure youve got a chunky, well draining mix, and you can also trim off any dead, brown bits or leaves to help it look better.
for propogating, you can cut between the nodes, which are the lines that the leaves grow from. make sure your cutting has at least one node, or two mature leaves for best results.
good luck!

I’m in Ohio and just bought the same plant on clearance for $5. It’s a beautiful little plant.

there’s still life in there! definitely does look like cold burn so i would suggest removing any crispy or wilted foliage. i would also recommend repotting in a chunky mix in a similar size or even smaller pot. there is no need to remove all of the soil, as this will remove root hairs as well and stress the plant further, i would just recommend removing most of the moisture-retentive media between the roots for your repot. give it plenty of bright indirect light and water once the soil is mostly or completely dry. monstera can handle a bit of drought. given time i think it will be okay as long as the stems are somewhat firm still

I’m in MN too! You could try putting it under a lamp or grow light and mist it a bit to try and warm it up, all while watering it a little bit more. I’m pretty new to plants, so my bad if you try this and it doesn’t work, but I do wish you luck!

Actually looking at it again, try watering it a little less than normal but still mist it a little. I hope it gets better!
