# Hey there! I am VERY new to propagating.. these are my first 2 Pink…

_Posted by Madeline on 2024-02-07_

Hey there! I am VERY new to propagating.. these are my first 2 Pink Dragon Alocasia corms and I have them in sphagnum moss. I mist them every so often and have them in an inclosed container. I believe it’s kept it’s humidity just by seeing condensation. I let them soak \& peeled their “casing”. It hasn’t been long. Am I doing this right? Any tips or tricks?

patience is key. most species’ propagations take 4-6 weeks before any visible growth

Right, I just wanted to ensure that I am doing it correctly.

i’m not experienced in alocasia but everything looks right to me. high humidity really encourages rooting, when it’s high enough plants can use their roots to pull water from the air. i’d suggest letting some airflow in there occasionally though (leave it open for 10-15 minutes per day) as sometimes sphagnum moss will grow mold and it can be harmful to propagations

Thank you!

I started my alocasia corms in perlite, sphagnum moss and fertilized water closed up in a baby food jar. It took about 5 weeks for roots and shoots to appear. Now I have two small Polly leaves.

Oh will do, thanks!

Definitely open the container to let fresh air in. The only problem I’ve had with propagating in sphagnum moss is that once the roots develop they are very thin and fragile. To help the roots develop stronger I’ve added perlite to the sphagnum like mentioned above in the previous comment.
