# How can I propagate this plant? A lot of the leaves to the bottom…

How can I propagate this plant? A lot of the leaves to the bottom part of the plant has died off and I don’t want it looking so bare. It does have a new leaf coming in. Should I wait for that to open up? I also had a trim around a lot of the leaves because they were yellow and brown. I just want my plant looking fresh again.

That looks like a “Dumb Cane” I cut mine down at least once to twice a year. They are hearty growers and you can cut and stick right back into soil or water prop. They do well in both. The steams/stalks usually do stay more bare towards the soil. I cut mine because they get so darn tall so fast. I believe you might be watering too often though. You should give a good water once a month or possibly twice. I’m in the PNW so I only water once really well.

This one is mine and I stuck some back in the pot. The second picture is water prop of some of the other stems/stalks.
