# I need some help. This plant means a lot to me. We lost our 18 month…

I need some help. This plant means a lot to me. We lost our 18 month old in a wreck in 2024 and this is the only plant we have left from his service.

It was doing great. Green and growing. Then my cat got in the room and knocked the entire pot off of the ledge. He wasn’t supposed to even be in there 😭 I know they’re toxic.

My friend had me take it out of the pot being that a lot of the roots were dead. She told me to use bottled water and put it near the window with a little shade. She had me cut back parts and told me it should grow new roots within a couple of weeks. It’s almost been two weeks and there are no new roots. I do have new buds tho.

I spray it and I have a humidifier at night. I change the water every couple of days.

Last night a lot of these plants were full and beautiful and today that look a little shriveled. So I moved them more into the sun and turned the humidifier back on.

I don’t know what else to do. I’ve did everything I’ve read on here and chat gpt
Me f the yellow spots are getting darker and greener but still no roots.
Help me not lose my plant baby please.

Let’s get that plant back to full health❤️I understand why it’s so important and I can’t even imagine.
Try some root hormone powder!! Let a node/ clipping callus for 2-4 hours (some ppl wait a full 24) then dip the plant node in some rooting hormone powder, leave the plant in a cup of water and you should see new root growth in abt 3-4 weeks. Try to change the water atleast once a week!

The good news is that the Brazil pothos is really resilient! I neglected mine for 3 years (left her hanging on a tree branch outside) she’s still thriving to this day. Alittle rooting powder and your love is all your plant needs for now. ❤️ don’t stress, and happy planting. May the healing and the love in your life root and grow forever

What do you mean by let it callus? Also, do you think I clipped it right before I put it in the water? I cut below the little nubby. Some of them seem to have new brown on them but I think it’s old leaves because it’s thin.

Tdd131522- callus means to let the stem where you cut air dry. Letting it sit will allow the stem to callus over.

Yes! Like QueenReaper said callus is when it gets dry. Kinda like a scab on a human, the cut u made on ur plant will make a scab. If u put her in water without letting it scab it could get root rot. First sign of root rot is brown mushy stems and leaves.

Uh oh. I think I may have that on a couple.

It looks ok from here!!! If anything is soft and mushy just cut it off, and she’ll be ok! :) ❤️ I kinda wish I could follow ur profile so I could see updates of ur plant in a month or 2. It’s going to be beautiful

A couple weeks is usually about when I see new roots starting to form so I’m sure they’re about to turn around. Those plants are resilient.

I hope so. I’m so stressed over it

I believe it. It will come back. I’ve nearly killed one of my plants and still brought it back.

First of all, I’m so sorry for your loss. I have sentimental plants, but nothing to this level. I can’t even imagine, but I do think we can get this plant to bounce back! As others have noted, pothos are robust!

If you want to help it grow roots a bit faster and generally keep the whole plant healthier, I recommend buying a cheap aquarium bubbler to keep the water oxygenated. Roots need oxygen and in my experience lack of oxygen is the first thing that starts killing roots in stagnant water. Here are a few of the plants I have in water at the moment. Please do not use the mini monstera as an example of how many roots it should have in water….thats just me being lazy 😅

Thank you. He was my whole world.

That’s a good idea! I’ll do that!

Ive never thought of oxygen for plants in water, I’m sure I have a few that could benefit from it! I can also definitely relate to the mini monstera, mine grows like a weed so I have about a million cuttings from it lol
