Hello all, I inherited a clusia rosea that just didn’t do too well and so am trying to propagate in water to try and save something!

Can you tell me if this looks promising or whether I am doing something wrong? Why is it looking like this 🥺? How can I correct this??
Thanks so much x

the first picture looks kind of like rot. maybe set the cutting out for a day or so to let the end dry up before putting it back in water?

i would also cut the rotted part off to make sure it doesn’t spread
