# Is anyone good with avocado plants?? I started this one in water for…

Is anyone good with avocado plants?? I started this one in water for about 2 to 3 months then stopped getting growth. So, recently I moved it to a pot and still not a lot is happening. It looked like it was going to grow another set of leaves, but now it’s brown on the top. I’m not sure if it’s just too hot in the summer where I am? Any tips!!?

It looks alright. Make sure it gets plenty of sun and that soil drains well. Started one from a seed and it lasted 2 years. It had periods of high growth and followed by no growth. (It eventually it died from too much water, but I’ve started 2 more that are the same age as yours. Keeping them in water as long as I can)

The problem is, my apt hardly gets any sun 😩 I don’t have drainage holes, but I keep charcoal in the bottom of my pots that don’t have holes to soak up water

From my experience I found it had trouble getting out the next bunch of leaves I had mine brown as well and then when it did come out the old leaves died off and finally it’s got it’s leaves staying! As you can see tho the bottom leaves aren’t as perky and probably going to die off sooner or later, I have it in indirect sun so I think it’ll do well outside right there! I have one for my mom in water and she’s got three leaves and having a stunt in growing some more as well, I kinda think it’s just the plant! Be patient with her and you’ll be so happy ❤️

Awww your cutie looks so good!! And Okay so basically they’re supposed to be temperamental? 😂 I’ve done a few of them in the past but I always just kept them in water and I usually would accumulate like up to 10 leaves. But this is my first time putting it in soil so I’ll try to be patient like you suggested 💚

When I started growing mine (about 18 months ago) I found an advice page saying that after you put it in a pot, when it gets to about 12” high you need to cut it down by half. It was a nerve wracking thing to do but it works great to stimulate more bushy growth, I cut it just above a set of branches (I think just after the growing season ends? Will have to check) and then when it started growing it’s filled out nicely and added lots of leaves.

It needs a lot of light so it sits in my window, and gets a good amount in our U.K. summer but not much in winter. It’s not warm enough here to have it outside as it likes a minimum of 15 Celsius I believe. I do need to give it a bigger pot now though!
