# hey y’all! so my pothos wasn’t doing very well in soil so I took her…

_Postat av kenna \<3 den 2023-07-16_

hey y’all! so my pothos wasn’t doing very well in soil so I took her out, cleaned her up and now she’s thriving in water. my question is: should I just leave her in water or put her back in soil? if soil, when? and why are the roots she put out fuzzy? is that some kind of rot? I know I have lots of questions, but please help! 😅

The fuzz is a sign of healthy root development. Since the water has more oxygen available to it the roots grow hairs. What was happening to it in the soil before you moved it to water?

my pothos isn’t growing very much either, and its pretty small. only one leaf, but very healthy with lots of roots. maybe i’ll move mine into water also

Yeah, they like to dry out and that’s tough without drainage. Also, 5 inches was probably too big of a pot. The soil at the top will dry out faster than the roots and can lead to overwatering. I would replant in soil in a smaller pot with drainage and add a small moss pole to encourage climbing.

How much light is it getting?

I will do that! it’s roots are like 3x the size of the plant tho 😅 can the roots be kinda smooshed or do they need to go straight down? i’d need to cut them to fit in a baby pot and I don’t know if I can do that!
